Timely hitting and clutch pitching were the key factors which led to the Franklin Senior High School Hornets sweeping past the West St. Mary Wolfpack in double- header action Thursday at the FSHS Baseball Field.

Franklin defeated West St. Mary 18-7 in the opener before coasting to a 13-1 victory in the nightcap.

Franklin pitcher Chase Romero posted a victory in the first contest. Romero also clubbed a pair of hits where he joined Jarion Brown and Bernard Mitchell as the Hornets’ leading hitters with two hits apiece.

Hunter Champagne, Brandon McFarlane, Damonte Mickles, Shawn Johnson, Trelon Turner and Allen Randle each contributed one hit to the offense.

Franklin pitcher Austin Bertrand collected the mound victory in the Hornets’ 13-1 win in the second contest.

Leading hitters for Franklin included: Davonte Joseph, two hits; Jarion Brown, Allen Randle, Damonte Mickles, Bernard Mitchell, Brandon McFarlane and Austin Hale all contributed with one hit each.

Damonte Mickles and Brandon McFarlane each recorded an extra-base hit in the second game.
