A 10-run fourth inning by Vandebilt Catholic turned a 3-1 Central Catholic advantage into an 11-3 advantage en route to an 18-9 win in opening round action of the E.D. White tournament in Amelia.

While the Eagles plated six runs during the remainder of the contest, Vandebilt plated seven.

Central Catholic’s pitching struggled as they surrendered four home runs and 15 hits.

Justin Arceneaux was tagged with the loss as he surrendered eight runs — seven earned — on seven hits with two strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

Central Catholic pounded out 12 hits in the loss, led by Barron Courtney’s 2-for-5 performance with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs.

Other top contributors included Josh Singleton, 3-for-4, an RBI and three runs; Luke Landry and Samuel Guarisco, each 1-for-3 with two RBIs, with Landry adding a stolen base; Tyler Hoffpauir, 1-for-4, an RBI and a run; and Austin Autin, 2-for-4, a run.

Central Catholic (7-5) will return to action today at 3:30 p.m. when it continues play in the E.D. White tournament against Thibodaux at Thibodaux High.

South Lafourche

defeats Patterson

Patterson was held to five hits at the plate and committed five errors in the field in a 13-1 loss to South Lafourche in five innings in the opening round of the E.D. White tournament Thursday.

While Patterson plated a run in the top of the first inning, South Lafourche responded with four in the bottom of the frame, five more in the second and two each in the third and fourth innings.

Dallas Hamlett led Patterson with a 2-for-3 performance with a double and a run, while Chris Fuselier added a 1-for-1 performance with a double. Other top contributors included Taylor Harris, 1-for-2, a stolen base; Bryce Tabor, 1-for-3; and Cameron Fontenot, an RBI.

In the win, South Lafourche pounded out 11 hits.

Spencer Landry suffered the loss for Patterson. In two innings, he surrendered nine runs — eight earned — on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Patterson (2-9) will return to action Saturday with two games at Thibodaux High, a 1 p.m. contest against Redemptorist and a 3:30 p.m. matchup with Morgan City.

Morgan City falls

to Thibodaux

Morgan City dropped an 8-3 contest to Thibodaux in its opening game of the E.D. White tournament Thursday.

No individual statistics were available.

The Tigers (6-6) will return to action at the tournament Saturday when they play Livonia at 11:15 a.m. and Patterson at 3:30 p.m.
