Staff Report

Morgan City High School senior Carmen Araujo was selected to the second team of the Division 2 girls’ All-State soccer team.

During her senior season, Araujo played left midfield, scored 14 goals and added 11 assists.

“She was a great asset to our team and will be missed,” Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson said. “She was our team captain. She showed leadership as well as great skills on the field. She also played for a travel team out of Houma in the off season to better herself and our team.”

The Division 2 All-State Coach of the Year honor went to Jose Ferrand of state champion Ben Franklin, while Hannah Savoie of Teurlings Catholic was named Player of the Year.

Morgan City’s district foe and Division 2 state runner-up Vandebilt Catholic placed three on the first team, Carly Ellender, Kim Grasso and Makelle Pena.
