Anglers will compete Saturday in Morgan City Open Fishing Rodeo

Staff report
Contestants in the Morgan City Open Fishing Rodeo take to their boats Saturday, hoping to bring the biggest fish in any of five categories back to Municipal Auditorium for the weigh-in.
And, just as the fish stories will get bigger over time, the rodeo’s contributions to Nicholls State and the South Louisiana Community College have increased over the event’s history.
Organizers say fishing rodeo proceeds have resulted in more than $200,000 in contributions to Nicholls, the community college system and other charities.
“We provide an environment that is fun and family oriented,” organizers say. “Everyone in the community is welcome to come out and enjoy the camaraderie and sport of fishing.”
The weigh-in at Municipal Auditorium begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, and all competitors must be there by 4 p.m.
Teams will compete in redfish, bass, catfish, speckled trout and Mike Michel Trash Fish categories. The trash fish include drum, gasper goo, flounder, lemon fish and gar.
Fish must be caught in waters available to the public.
A golf tournament on Friday is run in conjunction with the fishing rodeo.
